What movies get you in the Christmas mood? Many students can admit that they have a movie they can’t wait to see this Christmas season. It seems that regardless of how old anyone gets, these childhood movies will always hold a special place in their hearts. Even though most students didn’t grow up watching the same shows, it’s possible to have the same favorite Christmas movies. They may vary from animated movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas to live action movies like Home Alone. Maybe it’s the weather or the thought of Christmas itself, but these movies play a big part in getting people into the holiday spirit. The students at Libra have a similar taste in Christmas movies. I went around and asked 30 students what their favorite movie is. The majority answered with How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This movie has captured students’ hearts and has made them grow twice in size, taking them away from the stress that school has put them through. Another Tim Burton movie made it to the top picks. The Nightmare Before Christmas is a mixture between Halloween and Christmas, which is possibly why it would appeal to a large audience. Home Alone is also a favorite because many people enjoy comedy. This movie appeals to students, as watching two grown men being outsmarted by a young boy is humorous and reminds students of their childhoods. Holidays in general don’t seem complete without a marathon of holiday themed movies. ABC Family airs a Christmas movie marathon known as the 25 Days of Christmas. Just thinking about these movies will make students want Christmas to arrive already. Along with the food, family, and presents, movies play a big role in building Christmas spirit. They can be emotional like How the Grinch Stole Christmas or cheerful like Home Alone. As everyone grows older they seem to forget what being a kid is all about. When someone watches a Christmas movie, they go back in time to when they didn’t have to worry about anything. The only thing on their mind is waiting for it to be midnight on Christmas Eve so they can open their presents. If only there were more holidays like Christmas where families got together to make them feel like kids again. What movie is going to make this Christmas the best time of your year?
