The Marquez Boys Varsity Soccer Team onto Step 2

The Marquez boys varsity soccer team is on the path to reaching the CIF finals once again. They won their first playoff game against the Kennedy High School Cougars 2-0 on Thursday, February 18th. The game was intense, but our Gladiators managed to win the game like they did during their season. Reaching the CIF finals is every high school athlete’s dream, and that is where this team is heading. Unfortunately, the other Winter sports teams are not on their way to the CIF finals, leaving the soccer team as the only team left on the path to becoming CIF champions. However, all the other teams are rooting for our Gladiators to bring home the pride and glory this school deserves.

Many people ask if this year’s soccer team can live up to the expectations set by the previous “Dream Team”. The “Dream Team” got their name because that was the team that made it to the finals and is probably the best team this school will have for a long time. However, the varsity coach Filtzanidis stated, “This year’s team was uncommitted compared to last years team, as far as practice and games. Even though, I strongly believe this team is better than last year’s team.” Coach Filtzanidis believes that this team is just as strong or might be even stronger than last year’s “Dream Team”.

The team is giving it their all every game and every practice. They have one word that describes them, relentless. Relentless is to be persistent, meaning the team will never give up and keep fighting until the last whistle blows. The Marquez boys varsity soccer team does not want their year to end, and they are trying their best to bring home the trophy that will bring pride to our school. So next time you want to shake the hand of the Marquez boys varsity soccer team, it might be with a ring on their finger. “Don’t stop, never give up, always be relentless.” This is their motto every day, and it will continue to be for as long as the team can keep it together.
