st“Life is like a box of chocolates” is a quote that brings up a real life dilemma to many people around the world. The famous quote talks about how everything in life is unpredictable, and unless you're a real life chocolate connoisseur, everything is unexpected. Some people might set out to the world without first hand experience and with no fear of uncertainty. However, most people are not wired this way and lose precious time worrying about the future.
Financial Uncertainty
Growing up is that part of life where you are forced to leave all the childish things you have accumulated over your infancy and finally take on those “great” responsibilities that you often hear about. With great responsibilities come big financial decisions that can impact you for the rest of your life. This can be a very stressful time, especially if you’re the type of person who does not even know what you're eating that same afternoon, but what can you do about it? One example of financial uncertainty would be obtaining money for college. One big question students lose sleep over is whether they will get enough to pay for their tuition. One piece of advice is to be well informed when making a big economic decision. This can have a significant reduction in anxiety because when you make a decision based on hours of studying it can reduce the unnerving feeling of ambiguity.
Social Uncertainty
The most difficult part of uncertainty is the inability to plan and feel in control. This feeling is especially magnified when going out to social events. This inability to predict what will happen can be gut wrenching for many people and might even impede them from going out. When you go through life thinking that it should go a certain way you’re already setting yourself up for disappointment. Instead of expecting something from the future, try to focus on what you can create. According to TinyBuddha.com there are many ways to relieve the stress that comes from social events. Instead of wasting your time creating many hypothetical scenarios in your head like you would normally do,it would be more productive to focus on what you can control.
Some people believe that the best way to deal with uncertainty is to eliminate it by trying to control every aspect of their life. People who think this way don't only become control freaks, but they are the ones who lose control the most when they face uncertainties. The right way to deal with uncertainty is not avoiding it, but it’s learning how to be in control when you face it. Instead of trying to control the whole world around you its much easier to learn how to control yourself and your response to situations that has unpredictable outcomes. The next time you find yourself facing a situation that has an unpredictable outcome remind yourself that uncertainty is a normal part of life that can't be avoided. Try to control yourself instead of trying to control everything around you.
