Going to college is an exciting time for every student. Not only do you venture out to the world on your own, but it’s a symbol of true independence whether you know it or not. However, before you set out into the world you might want to pack or know a few things or else you might find yourself in a horrible situation.
Laundry is essential. At this point you should know how to do your laundry and if you don’t then that's just ridiculous. Knowing how often you should wash your clothes is critical. You do not want to be the one being left out because of the funky smell coming from your favorite party shirt. Do your laundry regularly try every week or so. Do it before you run out of clean underwear and jeans, because when you want your favorite jeans and you do not have them, what will you do then?
Sadly your parents are not going to be there to pay for your every desire just like how it is at home. With your new freedom comes new costs. It’s likely that you’ll be the one paying for that burrito you picked up at 3am and the pizza you ordered. Writing checks, balancing a checkbook, and paying bills are all important lessons to learn before setting out on your own. Even if your parents are generously covering many costs for you, it’s good to know how to manage your money because you’ll have to do it eventually.
It’s hard to live with a stranger no matter how much you think you have in common. Having a roommate might sound great at first, but there are many things that will make it difficult. Cleanliness is one of the biggest issues while sharing a room. So it’s a good idea to address these issues from the beginning so you both know where you stand and how to compromise. Having a roommate is all about communication, so it is important to be open and address issues, no matter how annoying or great your roommate might be.
Starting college is an amazing but also nerve wrecking experience. It’s sometimes hard to remember that everyone goes through these experiences. Whether you are ready or not it’s something that you will go through. So take these tips into consideration when you find yourself starting your freshman year in college.
