Biology Substitutes

Learning cell functions and geologic disasters all changed when Mr. Nguyen resigned in November for an undisclosed reason. This sudden departure left biology and ICS students baffled. The question remains, how will these students be taught and how does this reflect Libra’s academic reputation?
Temporary substitutes have been instructing these science classes. The first substitute teacher, Ms. Daza, left shortly after Mr. Nguyen’s departure since she found another job. The second substitute teacher, Mr. E Diaz, a former dean, took over on December 1, 2014.
Mr. E Diaz explains that he makes the students “do reading, Cornell-note taking and the usual questions at the end of each unit.” Diaz also reports that 90% of his students have turned in their work and that his students are generally well-behaved. Nevertheless, student opinion differs on the effectiveness and quality of his teaching.
Some Libra students claim to learn nothing from Diaz’s bookwork. One of the biology students, who will remain anonymous, “wonder[s] how [he is] going to pass future tests” and “feels disappointed in what has happened with [his] education.”
Others find him as a great teacher, such as freshman vice president Alejandro Rodriguez who says, “Mr. Diaz’s classroom is one of my most favorite classrooms ever,” and that he “likes the way [Diaz] teaches.”
Melissa Lizaola, a sophomore taking biology, also agreed that Diaz is a great teacher who can take control of the class.
Mr. E Diaz left on December 12, 2014. Libra is currently trying to hire a permanent teacher for the Spring semester to get these science students back on track.
