Timothy Donald Cook also known as “Tim” Cook the CEO of Apple Inc. publicly announced that he is gay on October 30, 2014 in an editorial he wrote on the website Bloomberg Businessweek. You are probably wondering why he had the need to reveal this personal information to the public if he has pretty much anything he could ask for.

Cook never denied he was homosexual but neither had he announced it publicly until Thursday. According to the article he wrote in Businessweek, he did it because he felt that he could help others. Cook wrote how he felt about this for example”,At the same time, I believe deeply in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, who said: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ ”Cook decided being CEO of Apple just wasn't enough. At first many were confused on what he meant by this. Cook has shown that whatever he is doing just isn't enough for him. He thought that if he exposed himself publicly other people in the same situation wouldn’t be as scared to come out.

It takes a lot of courage to publicly come out and say that you are gay. Cook did not know how the public was going to react.

Cook said his life was not more difficult because of his sexual preference, but he knows many people are not as fortunate as him. Many people still get bullied and hurt

because of their sexual preference. What Cook wanted to do was to inspire kids, teens, and adults; inspiring people not be ashamed of who they are. If the CEO of Apple can publicly say that he is gay, then many others dealing with the same situation can do it, too.

The fact that he wanted to do more than just be the CEO of Apple shows Cook to be someone to idolize. He decided to publicly announce his sexuality without concern about how it would affect his company. He exposed himself not for selfish reasons but to help other people who struggle with this everyday, Many people could get influenced to admit who they are without any fear. Not only did Mr. Cook say he was gay, but he said that he is proud to be gay as he wrote in his editorial in businessweek: “So let me be clear: I’m proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me.” Of course many did not expect him to say it because he likes to keep his personal life very private.Cook wanted to inspire others that it is okay to be yourself true self. You can see that he is not only the CEO of Apple but also someone who wants to help others as much as he can.
